The Faith.  EP 8  “พงศ์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อ”

(TH) สวัสดีครับทุกคนวันนี้เราจะมาคุยกันต่อในซีรีส์แห่งความเชื่อน่ะครับ วันนี้จะเป็นหัวข้อที่ชื่อว่า “ พงศ์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อ “ ครับ เดิมทีเราเคยรู้จักเรื่องพงศ์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อว่าหมายถึง พงศ์พันธุ์ของอับบราฮัมผ่านทางการเข้าสุหนัตใช่มั้ยครับ ? ทีนี้ก็เลยเป็นเหตุให้เกิดความสับสนว่า สรุปแล้วเรายังต้องเข้าสุหนัตอยู่หรือไม่ ? บางคนบอกว่าเพราะ”สุหนัต” เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์ จึงไม่สามารถยกเลิกได้ แล้วมันเกี่ยวอะไรกับ ”ความเชื่อ“ แล้วสรุปว่าเรายังต้องสุหนัตอยู่หรือไม่ ? มาดูไปพร้อมๆกันครับ

‘และพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านจะทรงนำท่านเข้ามาในแผ่นดินซึ่งบรรพบุรุษของท่านยึดครอง เพื่อท่านจะได้ยึดครอง และพระองค์จะทรงทำให้ท่านทั้งหลายจำเริญมั่งคั่งและทวีมากขึ้นยิ่งกว่าบรรพบุรุษของท่าน แล้วพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านจะประทานใจเชื่อฟังแก่ท่าน และแก่บุตรหลานของท่าน เพื่อท่านจะได้รักพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านด้วยสุดจิตสุดใจของท่าน เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะมีชีวิตอยู่ได้ ‘
เฉลยธรรมบัญญัติ 30:5-6

       ก่อนอื่นเลยทราบมั้ยครับในพระคำข้อนี้มีบางอย่างที่ยังไม่สมบูรณ์อยู่ นั้นก็คือมีคำศัพท์หนึ่ง ที่การแปลในเวอร์ชั่น ภาษาไทย ไม่สามารถเข้าใจได้จึงใช้คำศัพท์ อื่นมาทดแทน นั้นคือ คำว่า “พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านจะประทานใจเชื่อฟัง คำว่า “ใจที่เชื่อฟัง” นั้นแท้จริงในภาษาฮีบรูตรงตัวจะต้องใช้คำว่า “ให้ใจของท่านเข้าสุหนัต” ครับ นั้นแปลว่า ถ้าจะแปลให้ถูกต้องแปลว่า ในสมัยพันธสัญญาเก่า มีสิ่งที่เรียกว่า “การเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ“ แล้วนั้นเองครับ และถ้าเราสังเกตุ เหตุผลที่ยาห์เวห์ต้องทำอย่างนี้ก็เพราะว่าการเข้าสุหนัตทางใจจะช่วยให้เรา รักพระยาห์เวห์ได้สุดใจ นั้นคือ ความสามารถในการเชื่อฟังและทำตามโทราห์ได้อย่างถูกต้องและอย่างเป็นธรรมชาตินั้นเอง  และเจตนารมย์นี้ยาห์เวห์มีมาให้กับชนชาติอิสราเอล มานานแล้วตั้งแต่ภูเขาซีนาย แล้วสุหนัตทางกายคืออะไรครับ มาดูกัน

       ‘เจ้าจงเข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของเจ้า นี่จะเป็นหมายสำคัญของพันธสัญญาระหว่างเรากับพวกเจ้า ผู้ชายที่มีอายุแปดวันต้องเข้าสุหนัต คือชายทุกคนตลอดชั่วชาติพันธุ์ของเจ้า เป็นคนที่เกิดในบ้านของเจ้าก็ดี หรือที่เอาเงินซื้อมาจากคนต่างด้าว ซึ่งไม่ใช่เชื้อสายของเจ้าก็ดี ทั้งผู้ที่เกิดในบ้านของเจ้า และที่เอาเงินของเจ้าซื้อมาจะต้องเข้าสุหนัต ดังนี้แหละพันธสัญญาของเราจะได้อยู่ที่เนื้อของพวกเจ้า เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์ ‘
ปฐมกาล 17:11-13

       ในข้อนี้เราจะเห็นได้ในข้อที่ 11 ว่า การเข้าสุหนัตโดยการขลิบปลายอวัยวะเพศชาย นั้นเป็น “หมายสำคัญ” หรือ “sign” นั้นเอง

       และยังมีการเข้าสุหนัตที่เป็นกฏเรื่องความสะอาดที่อยู่ในเลวีนิติ

“จงกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลว่า ถ้าหญิงคนใดตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรเป็นชาย นางต้องเป็นมลทินไปเจ็ดวัน นางจะเป็นมลทินอย่างเดียวกับเวลาที่เป็นมลทินเมื่อมีประจำเดือน”
เลวีนิติ 12:2

       เราจะเห็นว่า  คำว่า สุหนัต มีอยู่ 3 บริบทใช่มั้ยครับ

       อย่างแรก การเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ ซึ่งหมายถึง การรักษาโทราห์ การแยกออกให้บริสุทธิ์

       อย่างที่สอง การเข้าสุหนัตทางร่างกาย ซึ่ง เป็นเพียง สัญลักษณ์ว่า คุณคือพงศ์พันธุ์ของอับบราฮัม ใครก็ตามที่จะเข้าร่วมให้พันธสัญญานี้แม้เป็นคนต่างชาติ หรือ ทาสที่ซื้อมาในแม้จะโตเป็นผู้ใหญ่แล้วก็ต้องขลิบ เพราะเป็นหมายสำคัญ

       อย่างที่สาม การเข้าสุหนัตให้เด็ก เป็นกฏด้านความสะอาดของชนชาติอิสราเอลนั้นเอง

       เอาหล่ะครับมาถึงตรงนี้พอจะเห็นภาพลางๆมั้ยครับว่า เราเมื่ออยู่ในพันธสัญญาใหม่แล้ว อะไรที่เปลี่ยนไป อะไรที่ยังคงอยู่ในหัวข้อเกี่ยวกับการเข้าสุหนัต ใช่แล้วครับ สิ่งที่ยังคงอยู่ คือ “สุหนัตทางใจ” เพราะนี้ยังเป็นสิ่งที่เราทุกคนต้องทำจนถึงทุกวันนี้และนี้คือ หลักฐานว่าเราเชื่อ อับบราฮัม ที่ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นบิดาแห่งความเชื่อ เพราะ เขาได้ เข้าสุหนัตทางใจ นั้นคือ ความเชื่อ กล่าวคือ อับบราฮัม เชื่อและวางใจในคำสั่งและคำแนะนำทั้งหมดของพระยาห์เวห์ นั้นเลยเป็นสาเหตุให้เขาได้รับตำแหน่งนี้ คือ บิดาแห่งความเชื่อ และ พงศ์พันธุ์ของอับบราฮัม คือ คนที่มีความเชื่อ คือ การเชื่อฟังทำตาม คำแนะนำ คำสั่งทั้งหมดจากพระยาห์เวห์ ได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ ดังนั้น ไม่ได้ขึ้นอยู่กับสายเลือด และขึ้นอยู่กับ การกระทำที่แสดงออกถึงความเชื่อ ดังนั้นสุหนัตทางใจ จึงเป็นสิ่งจำเป็นและมันคือหลักฐานว่าใครก็ตามที่ได้ชื่อว่า “เป็นพงศ์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อ “ เขาต้องมีสิ่งนี้คือการเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ เป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุด จากนั้น เพราะการเชื่อฟังทั้งหมด ยาห์เวห์จึงให้เขาทำสัญลักษณ์ไว้ที่ร่างกายเพื่อเป็นหมายสำคัญว่าพวกเขาอยู่ในพงส์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อนี้ ด้วยการ ขลิบปลายอวัยวะของเพศชายนั้นเอง ซึ่งในพันธสัญญาใหม่ ยาห์เวห์ได้เปลี่ยน “หมายสำคัญ” นี้ไปเป็นการ “บัพติสมา” แล้ว มาดูคำสั่งของยาห์ชัวกันครับ

‘ยาห์ชัวจึงเสด็จเข้ามาใกล้แล้วตรัสกับพวกเขาว่า “สิทธิอำนาจทั้งหมดในสวรรค์ก็ดี ในแผ่นดินโลกก็ดีทรงมอบไว้แก่เราแล้ว เพราะฉะนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายจงออกไปและนำชนทุกชาติมาเป็นสาวกของเรา จงบัพติศมาพวกเขาในพระนามของพระบิดา พระบุตร และพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ จะสอนพวกเขาให้ถือรักษาสิ่งสารพัดที่เราสั่งพวกท่านไว้ และนี่แน่ะ เราจะอยู่กับท่านทั้งหลายเสมอไป จนกว่าจะสิ้นยุค”
มัทธิว 28:18-20

       ข้อนี้คือพระมหาบัญชา ใช่มั้ยครับ ดูสิครับ ยาห์ชัวพระเมสิยาห์ สั่งงานก่อนพระองค์จะเสด็จขึ้นสู่สววรค์ไว้ว่าให้สาวก พาคนที่เชื่อ ทำหมายสำคัญแห่งความเชื่อ ในพันธสัญญาใหม่ ด้วยการให้บัพติศมาเพื่อจะได้รับพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ไว้เพื่อจะช่วยให้พวกเขา “สามารถเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ“ ได้สำเร็จ คือการถือรักษาสิ่งสารพัด นั้นเอง  มาดูเหตุการณ์ที่เป็นจุดเปลี่ยนของการยกเลิกการทำหมายสำคัญแห่งความเชื่อด้วยการเข้าสุหนัตทางร่างกาย มาสู่ หมายสำคัญแห่งความเชื่อในพันธสัญญาใหม่ คือ การบัพติศมา กันครับ

‘วันรุ่งขึ้นเวลาประมาณเที่ยง ขณะที่คนกลุ่มนี้เดินทางใกล้จะถึงเมืองยัฟฟา เปโตรขึ้นไปบนหลังคาตึกเพื่ออธิษฐาน ขณะนั้นท่านหิวอยากจะรับประทานอาหาร และในระหว่างที่ยังจัดอาหารกันอยู่ เปโตรก็ตกอยู่ในภวังค์ และท่านเห็นท้องฟ้าแหวกออกเป็นช่อง มีอะไรอย่างหนึ่งเหมือนผ้าผืนใหญ่ ซึ่งมุมทั้งสี่ถูกหย่อนลงมายังพื้นโลก ในนั้นมีสัตว์ทุกอย่าง ทั้งสัตว์สี่เท้า สัตว์เลื้อยคลาน และนกในอากาศ แล้วมีพระสุรเสียงกล่าวกับท่านว่า “เปโตร จงลุกขึ้นฆ่ากิน” เปโตรจึงทูลว่า “ไม่ได้ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เพราะว่าสิ่งไม่บริสุทธิ์หรือเป็นมลทินนั้น ข้าพระองค์ไม่เคยรับประทานเลย” แล้วมีพระสุรเสียงมาเป็นครั้งที่สองกล่าวกับท่านว่า “สิ่งที่พระเจ้าทรงชำระแล้ว เจ้าอย่าว่าเป็นสิ่งไม่บริสุทธิ์” สิ่งนี้ปรากฏถึงสามครั้ง แล้วถูกรับขึ้นไปในท้องฟ้าทันที เมื่อเปโตรยังคิดสงสัยเรื่องนิมิตที่เห็นนั้นว่ามีความหมายอย่างไร ในทันใดนั้น คนที่โครเนลิอัสใช้ไปนั้นก็มายืนอยู่หน้าประตูรั้วหลังจากถามหาจนพบตึกของซีโมน พวกเขาร้องถามว่าซีโมนที่เรียกว่าเปโตรพักอยู่ที่นี่หรือไม่? ขณะเปโตรตริตรองเรื่องนิมิตอยู่นั้น พระวิญญาณตรัสกับท่านว่า “นี่แน่ะ มีชายสามคนมาหาเจ้า จงลุกขึ้นลงไปข้างล่างและไปกับพวกเขาเถิด อย่าลังเลใจเลย เพราะว่าเราใช้พวกเขามา” เมื่อเปโตรมาถึง โครเนลิอัสก็ต้อนรับเปโตรและทรุดตัวลงแทบเท้าท่าน เปโตรจึงประคองโครเนลิอัสให้ลุกขึ้นและกล่าวว่า “จงลุกขึ้นยืน ข้าพเจ้าก็เป็นเพียงมนุษย์เหมือนกัน” ระหว่างที่กำลังสนทนากัน เปโตรเข้าไปและเห็นคนจำนวนมากมาอยู่รวมกัน จึงกล่าวกับคนเหล่านั้นว่า “พวกท่านทราบแล้วว่า การที่คนยิวจะคบหาหรือเยี่ยมเยียนคนต่างชาติถือว่าเป็นเรื่องต้องห้าม แต่พระเจ้าทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าแล้วว่า ไม่ควรถือว่าคนหนึ่งคนใดไม่บริสุทธิ์หรือเป็นมลทิน เพราะเหตุนี้เมื่อท่านใช้คนไปเชิญข้าพเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจึงมาโดยไม่ขัด ข้าพเจ้าขอถามว่า ที่ท่านเชิญข้าพเจ้ามานี้มีจุดประสงค์อะไร?” ขณะเปโตรยังกล่าวคำเหล่านั้นอยู่ พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์เสด็จลงมาสถิตกับทุกคนที่ฟังพระวจนะนั้น บรรดาคนเข้าสุหนัต ที่เชื่อแล้วซึ่งมาพร้อมกับเปโตรต่างประหลาดใจ เพราะว่าพระเจ้าประทานพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์แก่คนต่างชาติด้วย เพราะเขาทั้งหลายได้ยินคนเหล่านั้นพูดภาษาต่างๆ และยกย่องสรรเสริญพระเจ้า เปโตรจึงถามว่า “ใครจะห้ามคนเหล่านี้ที่ได้รับพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์เหมือนเราจากการรับบัพติศมาด้วยน้ำ?” เปโตรจึงสั่งให้เขาทั้งหลายรับบัพติศมาในพระนามของพระเยซูคริสต์ แล้วพวกเขาขอให้เปโตรพักอยู่กับพวกเขาอีกสักระยะหนึ่ง’
กิจการ 10:9-20,25-29,44-48

       นี้เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่ทำให้เปโตรแน่ใจว่า การเข้าสุหนัตทางกายที่เป็นหมายสำคัญแห่งความเชื่อสิ้นสุดลง และเปิดกว้างให้ทุกคนที่เชื่อ มาเข้าร่วมอยู่ในพันธสัญญาที่ยาห์เวห์ทำไว้กับอับบราฮัมในอดีตและเปลี่ยนการทำหมายสัญคัญทางความเชื่อแห่งพันธสัญญาใหม่ โดยการ รับบัพติศมาในน้ำ นั้นเอง มาดูความเห็นของเปาโลในเรื่อง การเปลี่ยนหมายสำคัญทางความเชื่อนี้กันครับ

‘ถ้าท่านประพฤติตามธรรมบัญญัติ พิธีเข้าสุหนัต ก็เป็นประโยชน์จริง แต่ถ้าท่านละเมิดธรรมบัญญัติ การที่ท่านเข้าสุหนัตนั้นก็เหมือนกับว่าไม่ได้เข้าเลย เพราะฉะนั้นถ้าคนที่ไม่ได้เข้าสุหนัตยังประพฤติตามธรรมบัญญัติแล้ว การที่เขาไม่ได้เข้าสุหนัตนั้น จะถือว่าเขาได้เข้าแล้วไม่ใช่หรือ? และพวกที่ไม่เข้าสุหนัตทางร่างกาย แต่ประพฤติตามธรรมบัญญัติ เขาจะพิพากษาท่านผู้มีประมวลธรรมบัญญัติและได้เข้าสุหนัตแล้ว แต่ยังละเมิดธรรมบัญญัตินั้น เพราะว่ายิวแท้ ไม่ใช่คนเป็นยิวแต่ภายนอกเท่านั้น และการเข้าสุหนัตแท้ก็ไม่ใช่การเข้าสุหนัตซึ่งปรากฏที่เนื้อหนังเท่านั้น คนเป็นยิวแท้ คือคนที่เป็นยิวภายใน และการเข้าสุหนัตแท้นั้นเป็นเรื่องของจิตใจ ตามพระวิญญาณไม่ใช่ตามตัวบทบัญญัติ คนอย่างนั้นไม่ได้รับการยกย่องจากมนุษย์ แต่ได้รับจากพระเจ้า’
โรม 2:25-29

       เห็นมั้ยครับเปาโลได้สรุปความหมายของการเข้าสุหนัตไว้ได้ชัดเจนมากและมันตรงกับที่พระยาห์เวห์บอกว่า สิ่งสำคัญ คือ การเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ นั้นคือ การรักพระยาห์เวห์สุดจิตสุดใจผ่านการรักษาธรรมบัญญัติของพระองค์นั้นเอง แต่มนุษย์เองไม่สามารถทำได้แต่ถ้าเขามีพระวิญญาบริสุทธิ์ของพระยาห์เวห์พระองคืจะช่วยเขาให้ทำได้ในที่สุด นั้นเป็นสาเหตุให้ในพันธสัญญาใหม่ หมายสำคัญทางความเชื่อ จึงต้องเปลี่ยนไป จากการขลิบปลายอวัยวะเพศชาย มาเป็นการบัพติศมาในน้ำแทน น้นเพราะในสมัยก่อน ผู้หญิงต้องมีผู้ชายดูแลเลี้ยงดูและปกครองพวกเธอทุกคนแต่ในปัจจุบัน ไม่เป็นแบบนั้นแล้ว ดังนั้น การจะทำหมายสำคัญทางความเชื่อ เฉพาะเพศชายก็จะเป็นปัญหาได้ในที่สุด

       การบัพติศมาจึงมาแทนที่ นั้นเอง

‘ในยาห์ชัวนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายได้รับการเข้าสุหนัตด้วยพิธีเข้าสุหนัตที่ไม่ได้ทำด้วยมือมนุษย์ โดยการขจัดเนื้อหนังบาป ด้วยการเข้าสุหนัตจากพระเมสิยาห์ พวกท่านถูกฝังร่วมกับพระองค์ในการบัพติศมา ที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงให้ท่านเป็นขึ้นมาร่วมกับพระเมสิยาห์ด้วย โดยความเชื่อในพลานุภาพของพระเจ้าผู้ทรงทำให้พระองค์เป็นขึ้นจากตาย และท่านซึ่งตายแล้วเนื่องด้วยการละเมิดทั้งหลาย และเนื่องด้วยการไม่ได้เข้าสุหนัตในเนื้อหนังของพวกท่าน พระเจ้า ทรงทำให้พวกท่านมีชีวิตร่วมกับพระเมสิยาห์ และทรงให้อภัยการละเมิดทั้งหลายของเรา ‘
โคโลสี 2:11-13

       ชัดเจนมากๆครับ ว่าหมายสำคัญแห่งความเชื่อ ในพันธสัญญาเก่า คือ “การเข้าสุหนัตทางร่างกาย”  ได้เปลี่ยนไปเป็น “การรับบัพติศมาในน้ำ” ซึ่งเป็นการแสดงออกว่า เราต้องตายต่อตัวตนเก่าๆของเรา คือการที่เรากดตัวเองจมลงในน้ำ ด้วยตัวเอง ย่ำน่ะครับ ด้วยตัวเอง การกลับใจจากบาปจึงต้องทำด้วยตัวเอง และการลุกขึ้นจากการจมน้ำ คือ การแสดงว่า คุณจะฟื้นขึ้นจากตายในที่สุด และหลังจากนั้น คุณก็จะได้รับพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ เป็นผู้ช่วยให้การสำเร็จสิ่งเหล่านั้น หากปราศจากพระวิญญาณของพระยาห์เวห์ในคุณก็จะยากมากๆที่จะทำได้สำเร็จนั้นเองครับ

       ดังนั้นแหละครับคุณจึงวจะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นพงศ์พันธุ์แห่งความเชื่อโดยสมบูรณ์ ด้วยการที่คุณกลับใจจากบาป และรับพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์เพื่อช่วยให้คุณเอาชนะบาปได้ในที่สุด แต่ต้องเป็นคุณเองที่ออกแรงต่อสู้ และต้องเชื่อฟัง  เห็นมั้ยครับ คุณยังต้องเชื่อฟัง แล้วเชื่อฟังอะไรครับ เชื่อฟังพระวิญาณบริสุทธิ์ ไงครับ แล้วเชื่อฟังไปเพื่อะไรครับ  ? ก็เพื่อจะรู้วิธิการเอาชนะบาปไงครับ แล้วบาปคืออะไรครับ ? บาปคือทุกอย่างที่ขัดต่อโทราห์หรือ ธรรมบัญญัตินั้นเอง สรุปแล้วพระวิญญาณมาเพื่อช่วยเรากลับไปรักษาธรรมบัญญัติให้ได้นั้นเอง และนั้นก็คือ การเข้าสุหนัตทางใจ ที่ถูกสั่งไว้ในพันธสัญญาเดิมและยังคงต้องทำอยุ่จนถึงปัจจุบันนั้นเองครับ

(EN) Hello everyone, today we will continue our discussion in the series of faith. Today’s topic is called ‘The Lineage of Faith’. Originally, we knew that the lineage of faith referred to the lineage of Abraham through circumcision, right? This has caused confusion about whether we still need to be circumcised or not. Some people say that because ‘circumcision’ is an everlasting covenant, it cannot be revoked. So how does it relate to ‘faith’, and in summary, do we still need to be circumcised or not? Let’s look at it together.

And YAHWEH your Elohim shall bring you into the land which your fathers have possessed, and you shall inherit it; and He shall do you good and multiply you above your fathers. And YAHWEH your Elohim will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love YAHWEH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.
Deuteronomy 30:5-6

       First of all, do you know that in this scripture there is something that is still incomplete? That is, there is one word where the translation in the Thai version cannot be understood, hence another word is used as a substitute. That is the word ‘YAHWEH your Elohim will give you a listening heart.’ The phrase ‘listening heart’ actually in Hebrew literally should be ‘let your heart be circumcised.’ This means that if it is to be translated correctly, it means  “And YAHWEH your Elohim will circumcise your heart”

       It translates to: In the time of the old covenant, there was something called ‘circumcision of the heart’ indeed. And if we observe the reason why Yahweh had to do this, it is because circumcision of the heart helps us to love Yahweh wholeheartedly, which is the ability to obey and follow the Torah correctly and naturally. And this intention has been given by Yahweh to the people of Israel for a long time since Mount Sinai. So what is physical circumcision? Let’s take a look.

And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin. And it shall be a token of the covenant between Me and you. And a son of eight days shall be circumcised among you, every male in your generation, he that is born in the house, or bought with silver from any son of a foreigner who is not of your seed. The child of your house and the purchase of your money circumcising must be circumcised. And My covenant shall be in your flesh for a perpetual covenant.
Genesis 17:11-13

       In this point, we can see in verse 11 that male circumcision is an ‘important sign’ or ‘sign’ itself. There are also cleanliness rules for circumcision found in Leviticus.

Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, If a woman has conceived seed, and has borne a male, then she shall be unclean seven days; as on the days of her menstrual impurity she shall be unclean.
Leviticus 12:2

       We can see that the word circumcision has 3 contexts, right? 

       First, Mental circumcision, which means to keep the Torah. Santification.

       Secondly, the physical act of circumcision, which is merely a symbol that you are a descendant of Abraham. Whoever joins this covenant, even if he is a foreigner or a slave bought in adulthood, must be circumcised because it is a sign.

       Thirdly, circumcision of children is the law of cleanliness of the Israelites.

       Alright, now that we have reached this point, can we vaguely see what has changed and what remains in the context of entering into the new covenant? Yes, indeed, what remains is ‘the circumcision of the heart’. This is something that we all must do to this day, and it is the evidence that we believe in Abraham, who is called the father of faith, because he underwent the circumcision of the heart, which is faith. This means that Abraham believed and trusted in all the commands and instructions of Yahweh, which is why he received this title: the father of faith. And the descendants of Abraham are those who have faith, which means naturally obeying all the instructions and commands from Yahweh.

Therefore, it does not depend on bloodline, but rather on actions that express faith. Thus, spiritual circumcision is essential and it is evidence that anyone who is called ‘a descendant of faith’ must have this, which is spiritual circumcision. It is the most important thing. After that, because of complete obedience, Yahweh commanded them to mark their bodies as a sign that they belong to this lineage of faith by circumcising the male genitalia itself. In the New Covenant, Yahweh changed this ‘sign’ to ‘baptism’. Now, let’s look at the command of Yahshua.

And coming up Yahshua talked with them, saying, All authority in Heaven and on earth was given to Me. And as my Father sent Me, I send you. Then having gone, disciple all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the completion of the age. Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20

       This is the great commandment, isn’t it? Look, Yashua the Messiah instructed before He ascended into heaven that the disciples should bring believers to perform the sign of faith in the New Covenant by baptizing them to receive the Holy Spirit, which would help them ‘successfully enter into the circumcision of the heart’, meaning to observe all things. Let’s look at the event that marked the turning point from the physical circumcision to the sign of faith in the New Covenant, which is baptism.

And the next day, as they passed along on the road, and drawing near to the city, Simon Peter went up on the roof to pray about the sixth hour. And he hungered and desired to eat. And while they prepared for him, a stupor fell over him. And he saw the heaven being opened and a certain vessel like a great sheet coming down on him, being bound by four corners, and let down onto the earth; in which were all the four-footed animals of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the heaven. And a voice came to him, Rise up, Peter, slay and eat. But Peter said, Elohim forbid my Master, because I never did eat anything common or unclean. And again a voice came to him a second time, What things Elohim made clean, you do not make common. And this happened three times, and the vessel was taken up into the heaven again. And as Peter was doubting within himself what the vision which he saw might be, even behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius stood on the porch asking about the house of Simon. And calling out, they inquired if Simon being surnamed Peter is lodged here. And as Peter pondered concerning the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men are seeking you. But rising up, go down and go with them, not discriminating, because I have sent them. And as Peter was coming in, meeting him, Cornelius fell at his feet and worshiped. But Peter lifted him up, saying, Stand up! I myself am also a man. And talking with him, he went in and found many having come together. You know that it is not lawful for a Yehudean man to associate with or come near to a foreign man who is not a son of his tribe, but Elohim showed to me concerning a man not to say that he is common or unclean. Because of this I came promptly when you sent for me, but I ask you for what reason did you send for me? As Simon was yet speaking these words, the Holy Spirit rested on all those hearing the Word. And the brothers, those circumcised, who came with him, were amazed and astonished that the gift of the Spirit was even poured out upon Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in different languages and magnifying YAHWEH. Then Simon answered, Can anyone forbid the water that these not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit received, even as we also? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of our Master Yahshua the Messiah. Then they askedhim to remain some days.
Acts 10:9-20,25-29,44-48

       This is the event that made Peter sure that the physical circumcision, which is a sign of faith, has ended, and it has opened the door for everyone who believes to participate in the covenant that Yahweh made with Abraham in the past, and to change the sign of faith of the new covenant through baptism in water. Let’s look at Paul’s views on this change of the sign of faith.

For circumcision is only profitable if you fulfill the Torah, but if you are a transgressor of Torah, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. If then, the uncircumcision keeps the statutes of the Torah, will not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?And the uncircumcision, which from its nature fulfills the Torah naturally, will judge you; who, with the scripture, and with circumcision, transgresses against the Torah. For it is not the one who is outwardly a Jew that is the real Jew, nor is circumcision that which is seen in the flesh; but he is a Jew that is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart, in spirit, not literally; of whom the praise is not from men, but from Elohim.
Romans 2:25-29

       Do you see, Paul has summarized the meaning of circumcision very clearly, and it aligns with what Yahweh said: The important thing is the circumcision of the heart, which means loving Yahweh with all your heart and soul through keeping His commandments. However, humans cannot do it by themselves, but if they have the Holy Spirit of Yahweh, He will ultimately help them to achieve it. That is why, in the New Covenant, the sign of faith must change from the circumcision of the male genitalia to baptism in water instead. In the past, women were required to be cared for and governed by men, but that is not the case anymore. Therefore, having a sign of faith limited to males could eventually become a problem. Hence, baptism has taken its place.

in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made by hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Messiah, being buried with Him in baptism, and by Him you were raised with Him for you believed in the power of YAHWEH, who raised Him from the dead. And you, who were once dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has granted to live with Him, having forgiven you all your sins,
Colossians 2:11-13

       It is very clear that the key meaning of faith in the Old Covenant is that ‘physical circumcision’ has changed to ‘baptism in water,’ which expresses that we must die to our old selves by immersing ourselves in water. Yes, by ourselves. Repentance from sin must also be done by ourselves, and rising from the water is a demonstration that you will ultimately resurrect from death. After that, you will receive the Holy Spirit, who assists in achieving those things. Without the Spirit of Yahweh in you, it will be very difficult to accomplish that.

       Therefore, you will be known as a complete lineage of faith by turning away from sin and receiving the Holy Spirit to help you ultimately overcome sin. But it is you who must put in the effort to fight and you must obey. Do you see? You still have to obey. And what do you need to obey? You need to obey the Holy Spirit. And why do you obey? To know how to overcome sin. And what is sin? Sin is everything that contradicts the Torah or the Law itself. In summary, the Holy Spirit comes to help us return to keep the Torah. And that is the circumcision of the heart, which is commanded in the Old Covenant and still must be done up to the present.
