The Faith. EP 10 “ทำด้วยความเชื่อ VS ทำด้วยความกลัว”

(TH) สวัสดีครับ วันนี้มาถึง EP ที่ 10 ว่าด้วยเรื่อง “การทำด้วยเชื่อ VS การทำด้วยความกลัว”

“เพราะฉะนั้น เราจะเอาอะไรมาอวด? ไม่มีทางทำได้เลย จะเอาการทำตามธรรมบัญญัติหรือ? จะเอาการประพฤติหรือ? ก็ไม่ได้ แต่ต้องเอาหลักเกณฑ์ของความเชื่อ เพราะเราเห็นว่า คนหนึ่งคนใดจะถูกชำระให้ชอบธรรมได้ก็โดยอาศัยความเชื่อนอกเหนือการประพฤติตามธรรมบัญญัติ หรือว่าพระเจ้านั้นทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของยิวพวกเดียวเท่านั้นหรือ? พระองค์ไม่ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของพวกต่างชาติด้วยหรือ? ถูกแล้วพระองค์ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของพวกต่างชาติด้วย เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงเป็นพระเจ้าองค์เดียว และพระองค์ทรงทำให้คนที่เข้าสุหนัตเป็นคนชอบธรรมโดยความเชื่อ และทำให้คนที่ไม่เข้าสุหนัตเป็นคนชอบธรรมก็ทางความเชื่อเหมือนกัน ถ้าเช่นนั้นเราลบล้างธรรมบัญญัติด้วยความเชื่อหรือ? เปล่าเลย เรายังชูธรรมบัญญัติขึ้นอีก”

เมื่อเราอ่านพระคำข้อนี้ สิ่งที่เราเห็นอย่างแรกเลยคือ เปาโลไม่บอกว่า ธรรมบัญญัติยกเลิกแล้ว แต่เขาบอกว่า เขามาเพื่อยกชูธรรมบัญัติขึ้นอีก และประเด็มต่อมาคือ เราไม่สามารถ เอาการทำตามธรรมบัญญัติ มาอ้างว่าตัวเองบอบธรรมได้เลย สิ่งนี้หมายความว่า อย่างไรครับ นั้นเพราะคนยิว รักษาธรรมบัญญัติตามตัวหนังสือ นั้นเอง การรักษาธรรมบัญญัติ ตามตัวหนังสือ เป็นอย่างไร ? การรักษาโทราห์ ตามตัวหนังสือ คือ การเลือกทำตามโทราห์เพราะ มันเป็น “กฏ” นั้นเอง แล้วโทราห์ เป็น “ กฏ ” คือ อะไรครับ กฏ ในที่นี้หมายถึง คุณฝ่าฝืน กฏ คุณจะถูกลงโทษ นั้นเอง มาดู กฏในโทราห์กัน ครับ

“ถ้าพบชายคนหนึ่งไปนอนกับภรรยาของคนอื่น ทั้งสองคนคือชายที่ไปนอนกับหญิงและหญิงคนนั้นจะต้องมีโทษถึงตาย ดังนั้นท่านจะกำจัดความชั่วจากอิสราเอล “ถ้ามีหญิงพรหมจารีคนหนึ่งหมั้นไว้แล้ว และมีชายคนหนึ่งไปพบเธอในเมืองและได้นอนกับเธอ พวกท่านจงพาเขาทั้งสองออกไปที่ประตูเมือง และเอาหินขว้างเขาทั้งสองให้ตายเสีย เพราะว่าหญิงสาวคนนั้น แม้อยู่ในเมืองก็ไม่ได้ร้องขอความช่วยเหลือ ส่วนชายคนนั้นได้ทำให้ภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้านได้รับความละอาย ดังนั้น ท่านจะกำจัดความชั่วเสียจากท่ามกลางท่าน “แต่ถ้าชายคนหนึ่งไปพบหญิงสาวที่คนอื่นหมั้นไว้แล้วที่กลางทุ่ง และชายคนนั้นจับตัวหญิงคนนั้นและได้นอนกับเธอ เฉพาะผู้ชายคนที่นอนกับเธอเท่านั้นจะต้องมีโทษถึงตาย แต่ท่านอย่าทำอะไรหญิงสาวนั้นเลย หญิงสาวนั้นไม่มีความผิดที่จะต้องโทษถึงตาย เพราะคดีนี้ก็เหมือนกับคดีเรื่องชายคนหนึ่งเข้าต่อสู้และฆ่าเพื่อนบ้านของตน”

เราจะเห็นว่า ข้อห้ามในโทราห์เรื่องการล่วงประเวณี ข้อนี้ หากใครฝ่าฝืน ก็จะมีโทษถึงตาย ใช่มั้ยครับ

ดังนั้น ใครจะโง่ ทำสิ่งนี้หล่ะครับ ไม่มีทาง เพราะหากมีคนพบความผิดนี้ คนที่ฝ่าฝืนจะถูกขว้างหินให้ตาย ได้เลย และคนอิสราเอลจัไม่รีรอที่จะสำเร็จโทษในกรณีนี้ และนี้แหละครับ คือตัวอย่างของ การกระทำตามธรรมบัญญัติ ที่ไม่ช่วยให้ใครชอบธรรมในสายพระเนตรพระยาห์เวห์ นี้คือการ ถือรักษาโทราห์ ตามตัวหนังสือ เขาไม่ล่วงประเวณีเพราะเขาไม่อยากโดนขว้างหิน สิ่งนี้ใครๆก็ทำได้ เพราะนี้คือการรักษาโทราห์ เพราะความกลัว ลองไม่มีกฏข้อนี้ห้ามไว้ดูสิครับ โลกใบนี้จะเกิดอะไรขึ้น ใช่แล้วมันเคยเกิดมาแล้ว เพราะอย่าลืมน่ะครับ กฏหมายเหล่านี้ เกิดมาหลังจาก เหตุการณ์ “วัวทองคำ” แล้วเหตุการณ์นี้เกิดอะไรขึ้นครับ มาดูกัน

“เมื่ออาโรนเห็นดังนั้นแล้ว จึงสร้างแท่นบูชาไว้ ตรงหน้ารูปโคนั้น แล้วอาโรนประกาศว่า “พรุ่งนี้จะเป็นวันเทศกาลเลี้ยงถวายเกียรติพระยาห์เวห์” รุ่งขึ้นพวกเขาก็ลุกขึ้นแต่เช้าถวายเครื่องบูชาเผาทั้งตัว และนำเครื่องศานติบูชามา ประชาชนก็นั่งลง กินและดื่ม แล้วก็ลุกขึ้นทำสิ่งที่น่าบัดสีต่อกัน”

“So the next day they got up early and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and got up to engage in lewd behavior.”

“Early the next morning they brought some animals to burn as sacrifices and others to eat as fellowship offerings. The people sat down to a feast, which turned into an orgy of drinking and sex.”

เราจะเห็นว่า คำว่า “ ลุกขึ้นทำบัดสีต่อกัน ” นั้นในหลายฉบับภาษาอังกฤษแปลว่า “ พวกเขามีเพศสัมพันธ์กัน ” ใช่แล้ว พวกเขาเอาวิธีการนมัสการพระของอียิปต์มาใช้นมัสการพระยาห์เวห์ และนี้ทำให้เราเห็นว่า ก่อนหน้านี้สิ่งนี้สำหรับชาวอิสราเอล ไม่ได้ถือเป็นความผิด ไม่มีใครต้องตายเพราะการกระทำแบบนี้ แต่หลังจากเหตุการณ์นี้ ใครก็ตามประพฤติแบบนี้ พวกเขาจะต้องตาย โทราห์ จึงทำหน้าที่ บอกเขา สอนเขา ให้รู้จักว่า อะไร เป็นบาป นั้นเอง

และหากไม่มีโทราห์ การกระทำแบบนี้ก็ไม่ถือเป็นบาป ที่ทำให้ต้องตาย แต่แน่หล่ะ นี้ไม่ใช่สิ่งที่ยาห์เวห์ พอพระทัย

อย่าลืมน่ะครับ ที่พูดแบบนี้ได้ คือ ที่บอกว่า ถ้าไม่มีโทราห์ ก็ไม่มีบาป เนี้ย หมายถึง อะไรก็ตามที่ยาห์เวห์จะทำ พระองค์จะต้องบอกให้คนของพระองค์ รู้เสียก่อน พระองค์ถึงจะตัดสินใจทำสิ่งนั้น เพื่อให้ พวกเขาได้เลือกใหม่ หรือที่เรารู้จักในคำว่า “ กลับใจ ” นั้นเอง

“พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสว่า “เราจะซ่อนสิ่งซึ่งเราจะทำนั้นไม่ให้อับราฮัมรู้หรือ? แน่ทีเดียวอับราฮัมจะเป็นประชาชาติใหญ่โตและมีกำลังมาก และประชาชาติทั้งหมดในโลกจะได้รับพรก็เพราะเขา”

“พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสว่า “เสียงร้องกล่าวโทษเมืองโสโดมและเมืองโกโมราห์นั้นดังเหลือเกิน และบาปของเขาก็หนักมาก เราจะลงไปดูว่าพวกเขาทำผิดจริงตามคำร้องที่มาถึงเรานั้นหรือไม่ ถ้าไม่ เราก็จะรู้””

เราจะเห็นว่าที่ยาห์เวห์ต้องทำลายโสดม ก็เพราะมีเสียงร้องทุกข์ขึ้นไป แต่ในสมัยนั้นยังไม่มีกฏหมายสำหรับเรื่องนี้ แต่นั้นไม่เหมือนกับสมัยหลังจากที่อิสราเอลทำผิดเรื่อง วัวทองคำ

ก่อนที่จะมีโทราห์เรื่องแบบนี้จึงไม่อาจจะเรียกว่าเป็นความผิดบาปได้ แต่ย่ำอีกรอบ การกระทำแบบนี้ก็ไม่เคยเป็นที่พอพระทัยพระยาห์เวห์อยู่ดีและยังเป็นสิ่งพึ่งรังเกียจต่อพระองค์ด้วย แต่เมื่อ ทรงมอบโทราห์ไว้ให้แล้ว คนอิสราเอล ยินยอมในข้อตกลงนี้แล้ว สิ่งนี้ก็ชอบธรรมที่จะดำเนินการลงโทษสำหรับผู้ที่ฝ่าฝืน ได้ทันที นั้นเอง

“ถ้าอย่างนั้นเราจะว่าอย่างไร? จะว่าธรรมบัญญัติคือบาปหรือ? เปล่าเลย แต่ว่าถ้าไม่มีธรรมบัญญัติแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าก็คงไม่รู้จักบาป เพราะว่าถ้าธรรมบัญญัติไม่ได้ห้ามว่า “ห้ามโลภ” ข้าพเจ้าก็คงไม่รู้ว่าอะไรคือความโลภ แต่ว่าบาปได้ฉวยโอกาสใช้ข้อบัญญัตินั้น ทำให้ความโลภทุกอย่างเกิดขึ้นในตัวข้าพเจ้า เพราะว่าถ้าไม่มีธรรมบัญญัติ บาปเป็นสิ่งที่ตายแล้ว เมื่อก่อนข้าพเจ้าดำรงชีวิตอยู่นอกเหนือธรรมบัญญัติ แต่เมื่อบัญญัตินั้นมา บาปก็กลับมีชีวิต และข้าพเจ้าก็ตาย บัญญัติซึ่งมีไว้เพื่อชีวิต ข้าพเจ้าพบว่านำไปสู่ความตาย เพราะว่าบาปได้ฉวยโอกาสใช้บัญญัตินั้นล่อลวง และประหารข้าพเจ้าให้ตาย เพราะฉะนั้น ธรรมบัญญัติจึงเป็นสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และบัญญัตินั้นก็ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ยุติธรรมและดีงาม”

“ถ้าพวกที่ถือตามธรรมบัญญัติจะเป็นทายาท ความเชื่อก็ไร้ความหมาย และพระสัญญาก็เป็นโมฆะ เพราะธรรมบัญญัตินำไปสู่พระพิโรธ แต่ที่ใดไม่มีธรรมบัญญัติ ที่นั้นก็ไม่มีการละเมิด”
โรม 4:14-15 THSV11

เอาหล่ะครับมาถึงตรงนี้เพื่อเราจะเข้าใจว่า คนอิสราเอล รู้จักโทราห์ ถือโทราห์ ได้นั้น เพราะโทราห์ คือ กฏหมาย หากเขาฝ่าฝืน พวกเขาจะได้รับการโทษ บางเรื่องถึงตาย และการกระทำแบบนี้จะเรียกว่า ความเชื่อได้อย่างไร ? และพูดให้ถูกอีก ก็ต้องพูดว่า “ การรักษาโทราห์เพราะกลัวตายแบบนี้ จะเรียกตัวเองว่า ชอบธรรมได้อย่างไร ? ” จริงมั้ยครับ ?

“เพราะฉะนั้น เราจะเอาอะไรมาอวด? ไม่มีทางทำได้เลย จะเอาการทำตามธรรมบัญญัติหรือ? จะเอาการประพฤติหรือ? ก็ไม่ได้ แต่ต้องเอาหลักเกณฑ์ของความเชื่อ”

อ่านข้อนี้อีกทีเริ่มเข้าใจแล้วใช่มั้ยครับว่า เปาโลหมายถึงอะไร แล้วมาถึง เจ้าคำว่า “ ความเชื่อ ” กันครับ

ว่า ถ้าเราไม่ถือรักษาโทราห์ด้วยความกลัว เลยทำได้เพียงแค่ เป็นการประพฤติทางกายภาพ และ ไม่ลงลึกเข้าไปถึง จิตใจของเรา นั้นหน้าตาเป็นอย่างไร ?

“ท่านทั้งหลายจงตั้งใจรักษาบัญญัติของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่าน และพระโอวาทของพระองค์และกฎเกณฑ์ของพระองค์ ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงบัญชาท่านไว้ พวกท่านจงทำสิ่งที่ดีและถูกต้องในสายพระเนตรพระยาห์เวห์ เพื่อจะเป็นการดีต่อท่าน และเพื่อท่านจะได้เข้ายึดครองแผ่นดินดีซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์ทรงปฏิญาณที่จะประทานแก่บรรพบุรุษของท่าน โดยขับไล่ศัตรูทั้งสิ้นของท่านออกไปให้พ้นหน้าท่าน ดังที่พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสไว้”

“ฉะนั้นจงทราบเถิดว่า พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของท่านเป็นพระเจ้า เป็นพระเจ้าซื่อสัตย์ผู้ทรงรักษาพันธสัญญาและความรักมั่นคง ต่อบรรดาผู้ที่รักพระองค์และรักษาบัญญัติของพระองค์ถึงพันชั่วอายุคน และทรงตอบแทนผู้ที่เกลียดชังพระองค์ต่อตัวเขาเอง โดยทรงทำลายเขาเสีย พระองค์จะไม่ทรงลดหย่อนโทษผู้ที่เกลียดชังพระองค์ พระองค์จะทรงตอบแทนต่อตัวเขาเอง ดังนั้นพวกท่านจงระวังที่จะทำตามบัญญัติ กฎเกณฑ์ และกฎหมาย ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้บัญชาท่านในวันนี้”

เราจะเห็นว่าเจตนารมย์ของพระยาห์เวห์ที่เลือกมอบโทราห์ให้อิสราเอลทนั้นเพราะต้องการรักษาจิตใจของพวกเขาให้สะอาด เพื่อจะพวกเขาจะสามารถอยู่ใกล้พระองค์ได้และได้รับการอวยพร

ยาห์ชัวพระเมสิยาห์จึงจำเป็นต้องมาสอนพวกเขาใหม่ในภายหลังให้เข้าใจเจตนารมย์ที่แท้จริงของโทราห์ เพราะพวกยิวไม่เข้าใจสิ่งนี้ดีพอ และยังใช้มันแบบผิดๆ อีกด้วย มาดูกันครับว่ายาห์ชัวสอนอย่างไร

อย่างแรกพระองค์ กล่าวชัดเจนว่า พระองค์ไม่ได้มาล้มเลิกโทราห์แต่มาทำให้สมบูรณ์ทุกประการ

“อย่าคิดว่าเรามาล้มเลิกธรรมบัญญัติและคำของบรรดาผู้เผยพระวจนะ เราไม่ได้มาล้มเลิก แต่มาทำให้สมบูรณ์ทุกประการ เพราะเราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า จนกว่าฟ้าและดินจะล่วงไป แม้อักษรที่เล็กที่สุด หรือขีด ขีดหนึ่ง ก็จะไม่มีวันสูญไปจากธรรมบัญญัติ จนกว่าทุกสิ่งจะเกิดขึ้น เพราะฉะนั้น ใครทำให้ข้อเล็กน้อยเพียงข้อหนึ่งในพระบัญญัตินี้ มีความสำคัญน้อยลง และสอนคนอื่นให้ทำอย่างนั้นด้วย คนนั้นจะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นผู้เล็กน้อยที่สุดในแผ่นดินสวรรค์ แต่ใครที่ประพฤติและสอนตามธรรมบัญญัติ คนนั้นจะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นใหญ่ในแผ่นดินสวรรค์ เพราะเราบอกพวกท่านว่า ถ้าความชอบธรรมของท่านไม่มากกว่าความชอบธรรมของพวกธรรมาจารย์และพวกฟาริสี พวกท่านจะไม่มีวันได้เข้าสู่แผ่นดินสวรรค์”

และเริ่มต้น อธิบายความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งตามเจตนารมย์แท้จริงของพระบิดาให้ทุกคนเข้าใจถึงจิตวิญญาณที่ถูกต้องของโทราห์ดังนี้ครับ

“ท่านทั้งหลายได้ยินคำซึ่งกล่าวไว้กับคนในสมัยก่อนว่า ‘ห้ามฆ่าคน ถ้าใครฆ่าคน คนนั้นจะต้องถูกพิพากษา’ แต่เราบอกพวกท่านว่า ใครโกรธพี่น้องของตน คนนั้นจะต้องถูกพิพากษา ถ้าใครพูดกับพี่น้องอย่างเหยียดหยาม คนนั้นจะต้องถูกนำไปยังศาลสูงให้พิพากษา และถ้าใครพูดว่า ‘อ้ายโฉด’ คนนั้นจะมีโทษถึงไฟนรก เพราะฉะนั้น ถ้าท่านนำเครื่องบูชามาถึงแท่นบูชาแล้ว และระลึกขึ้นได้ว่า พี่น้องมีเหตุขัดเคืองข้อหนึ่งข้อใดกับท่าน จงวางเครื่องบูชาไว้ที่หน้าแท่นบูชา และกลับไปคืนดีกับพี่น้องผู้นั้นเสียก่อน แล้วจึงค่อยมาถวายเครื่องบูชาของท่าน จงปรองดองกับคู่ความโดยเร็วในขณะที่พากันไปศาล มิฉะนั้นคู่ความนั้นจะมอบตัวท่านไว้กับผู้พิพากษา แล้วผู้พิพากษาจะมอบตัวท่านไว้กับผู้คุม และท่านจะต้องถูกขังไว้ในคุก เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า ท่านจะออกจากที่นั่นไม่ได้จนกว่าจะใช้หนี้หมด”

โทราห์ บอกว่า “ห้าม ฆ่าคน” พวกเขาเลยทำตามนั้นจริงๆ พวกเขาไม่ฆ่ากันจนตาย แต่พวกเขาเลือกใช้วิธีที่จะเลี่ยงบาลี ในสำนวนไทยนั้นเอง คือ “ไม่ฆ่าให้ตายก็ได้ แต่ฉันจะฆ่าแกทั้งเป็น” ก็ทำไมหล่ะโทราห์ไม่ได้ห้ามไว้หนิ ฉันผิดตรงไหน อะไรทำนองเนี้ยอ่ะครับ เห็นมั้ยครับ นี้คือการ รักษาโทราห์แค่การประพฤติทางกายภาพ รักษาโทราห์ ตามตัวหนังสือ รักษาโทราห์ เพราะความกลัว และสิ่งนี้ไม่ใช่ “ ความเชื่อ ” และไม่มีทางที่จะชอบธรรมได้เลย

คนยิวไม่ฆ่ากันก็จริงครับ แต่พวกเขาปล่อยให้ตัวเองเต็มไปด้วยความเกลียดชังต่อกัน พวกเขาประนามกันและกัน ดูหมิ่น เหยียดหยามกันและกัน พวกเขามีโทสะต่อกัน สถาพจิตใจพวกเขาจะเป็นอย่างไรครับ? เห็นมั้ยครับ โทราห์ไม่ช่วยอะไรเลย แต่นั้นไม่ใช่เพราะโทราห์ไม่ดี แต่เป็นเพราะบาปในตัวพวกเขาและพวกเราที่รั้งเราไม่ให้ไปถึงความสวยงามของโทราห์ เราจึงต้องการ พระผู้ช่วย คือ ยาห์ชัวนั้นเอง และยาห์ชัว ช่วยเรายังไงครับ ? ก็โดยที่พระองค์ สละชีวิตเพื่อจ่ายราคาแทนความผิดเรา และ พระองค์จึงสามารถ มอบพระวิญญาญบริสุทธิ์ให้กับเราเพื่อพระองค์จะทรงแนะนำเราได้นั้นเอง แนะนำว่า เราจะรักษาโทราห์ให้ถูกต้องได้อย่างไร นั้นเองครับ เพื่อในที่สุดจิตวิญญาญเราจะบริสุทธิ์ และเราจะชอบธรรมได้จริงๆ โดยความเชื่อ เพราะเราจะสามารถ รักษาโทราห์ ด้วยความเชื่อ ได้สำเร็จในที่สุด ครับ

“เพราะฉะนั้นไม่มีการลงโทษคนที่อยู่ในยาห์ชัวพระเมสิยาห์ เพราะว่ากฎของพระวิญญาณแห่งชีวิตในยาห์ชัวพระเมสิยาห์ ได้ทำให้ท่านพ้นจากกฎแห่งบาปและความตาย เพราะว่าสิ่งซึ่งธรรมบัญญัติทำไม่ได้ เพราะเนื้อหนังทำให้มันอ่อนกำลังไปนั้น พระเจ้าได้ทรงทำแล้ว โดยพระองค์ทรงใช้พระบุตรของพระองค์เองมา ในสภาพเสมือนเนื้อหนังที่บาป และเพื่อไถ่บาป พระบุตรในเนื้อหนังจึงได้ทรงลงโทษบาป เพื่อความชอบธรรมของธรรมบัญญัติจะได้สำเร็จในตัวเราผู้ไม่ดำเนินตามเนื้อหนัง แต่ตามพระวิญญาณ เพราะว่าคนทั้งหลายที่อยู่ฝ่ายเนื้อหนัง ก็สนใจในสิ่งซึ่งเป็นของเนื้อหนัง แต่คนทั้งหลายที่อยู่ฝ่ายพระวิญญาณ ก็สนใจในสิ่งซึ่งเป็นของพระวิญญาณ การเอาใจใส่เนื้อหนังก็คือความตาย และการเอาใจใส่พระวิญญาณ ก็คือชีวิตและสันติสุข เพราะว่าการเอาใจใส่เนื้อหนังนั้นคือการเป็นศัตรูต่อพระเจ้า ไม่ปฏิบัติตามธรรมบัญญัติของพระเจ้า และที่จริงไม่สามารถปฏิบัติตามได้ และคนที่อยู่ในเนื้อหนัง จะเป็นที่ชอบพระทัยพระเจ้าก็ไม่ได้”

The Faith. EP 10 “ Do with faith VS Do with fear”

(EN) Hello, today we have reached EP 10 which talks about “ Do with faith VS Do with fear”

Then where is the boasting1? It was not there. Through what law? Of works? No, but through a Law of faith. Then we conclude a man to be justified by faith without works of the Law. Or is He the Elohim of Jews only, and not also of the nations? Yes, of the nations also, since it is one Elohim who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Do we then nullify the Torah by faith? Far be it. On the contrary, we establish the Torah!
Romans 3:27-31

When we read this scripture, the first thing we see is that Paul does not say that the law has been abolished, but he says that he has come to lift up the law again. The next point is that we cannot claim righteousness by adhering to the law. What does this mean? This is because the Jews observe the law according to the letter itself. What does it mean to observe the law according to the letter? Observing the Torah according to the letter means choosing to follow the Torah because it is a ‘rule’. So, what does ‘rule’ refer to?

A rule here means if you break the rule, you will be punished. Let us look at the rules in the Torah.

If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman. And you shall put away the evil from Israel. If there is a girl that is a virgin, betrothed to a man, and a man finds her in the city, and they commit fornication together, then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city. And you shall stone them with stones so that they die, the girl because she did not cry out, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor’s wife. And you shall put away the evil from among you. But if a man finds a betrothed girl in the field, and the man forces her and lies with her; then only the man that lay with her shall die. And you shall do nothing to the girl; the girl has no sin worthy of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, even so is this matter.
Deuteronomy 22:22-26

We can see that the prohibition in the Torah regarding adultery, if anyone violates it, the punishment could be death, right? So who would be foolish enough to do this? There is no way, because if someone is found guilty of this, the violator would be stoned to death, and the people of Israel would not hesitate to carry out the punishment in this case. And this, indeed, is an example of actions according to the commandments that do not make anyone righteous in the eyes of Yahweh. This is the observance of the Torah according to the letter; they do not commit adultery because they do not want to be stoned. Anyone can do this because it is the observance of the Torah out of fear. Just imagine what would happen in this world if this rule was not in place. Yes, it has happened before, because let’s not forget that these laws came after the ‘Golden Calf’ incident. So what happened during that event? Let’s take a look.

And Aaron saw, and he built an altar before it. And Aaron called and said, A feast to YAHWEH tomorrow. And they rose early on the morrow, and they offered burnt offerings and brought near peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to make merry.
Exodus 32:5-6

We will see that the phrase ‘rose up to make merry’ in many English versions is translated as ‘they have sexual relations with each other.’ Yes, they used the methods of worship of the Egyptian gods to worship Yahweh, and this shows us that previously this was not considered a crime for the Israelites. No one had to die for such actions, but after this incident, anyone who behaves this way will have to die. The Torah thus serves to inform and teach them what is sin itself, and without the Torah, such actions would not be considered a sin that leads to death. But of course, this is not what Yahweh desires.

Don’t forget, what is meant by saying this is that if there is no Torah, there is no sin. This means that whatever Yahweh will do, He must first inform His people before He decides to do that thing, so that they can have a chance to choose again, or what we know as ‘repentance’.

And YAHWEH said, Shall I hide from Abraham that which I am doing? And Abraham shall surely become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Genesis 18:17-18

And YAHWEH said, The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is exceedingly heavy. I will go down and see if they have at all done according to the cry coming to Me. And if not, I will know.
Genesis 18:20-21

We will see that Yahweh had to destroy Sodom because there were cries of anguish rising up, but at that time there was no law regarding this matter; however, it was different in the time after Israel sinned regarding the golden calf.

Before the Torah was given, such actions could not be considered sinful. However, to emphasize once again, such actions have never been pleasing to Yahweh and are still an abomination to Him. But once He had given the Torah and the people of Israel agreed to this covenant, it became just to impose punishment on those who violate it immediately.

What shall we say then? Is the instruction sin? Let it not be! But I did not know sin except through the Torah; for also I did not know lust except the Torah said, “You shall not lust.” But sin taking occasion through the commandment worked every lust in me; for apart from Law, sin is dead. And I was alive apart from the Torah once, but the commandment came, and sin came alive, and I died. And the commandment which was to life, this was found to be death to me; for sin taking occasion through the commandment deceived me, and through it killed me. So indeed the Torah is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
Romans 7:7-12

For if they who are of the law were heirs, faith would be made void, and the promise of no effect. For the Law works out wrath; for where there is no instruction in the Torah against an action, then there is no transgression.
Romans 4:14-15

Alright, we have reached this point to understand that the people of Israel know the Torah and hold it because the Torah is the law. If they violate it, they will face punishment, some of which can lead to death. How can actions like this be called faith? And to be precise, it must be said that ‘keeping the Torah out of fear of death cannot be called righteousness.’ Is that true?

Then where is the boasting? It was not there. Through what law? Of works? No, but through a Law of faith.
Romans 3:27

Read this point again, you understand now what Paul means, right? Now let’s talk about the word ‘faith.’ If we do not keep the Torah with fear, then we can only act physically without delving deep into our hearts. What does that look like?

Diligently, you shall keep the commandments of YAHWEH your Elohim, and His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. And you shall do the right thing and the good thing in the eyes of YAHWEH, so that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land which YAHWEH has sworn to your fathers, to drive out all your enemies from before you, as YAHWEH has spoken.
Deuteronomy 6:17-19

Because of this, know that YAHWEH your Elohim, He is Elohim, the faithful El, keeping the covenant and mercy to those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments, to a thousand generations; and repaying to his face those that hate Him, to destroy him; He will not delay, He will repay him who hates Him, to his face.And you shall keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments which I am commanding you today, to do them.
Deuteronomy 7:9-11

We will see that the intention of Yahweh in choosing to give the Torah to Israel was to keep their hearts pure so that they could be close to Him and receive blessings.

Yahshua the Messiah thus needed to come later to teach them again to understand the true intention of the Torah, because the Jews did not understand this well enough and were also using it wrongly. Let’s see how Yahshua taught.

First, He clearly stated that He did not come to annul the Torah, but to fulfill it in every aspect.

Do not think that I came to annul the Torah or the Prophets; I did not come to annul, but to fulfill. Truly I say to you, Until the heaven and the earth pass away, in no way shall one yod or one stroke pass away from the Torah until all comes to pass. Therefore, whoever loosens one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the worst in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever does and teaches them, this one shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven. For I say to you, If your righteousness shall not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the kingdom of YAHWEH, never!
Matthew 5:17-20

And begin to explain the profound meaning according to the true intent of the Father so that everyone understands the correct spirit of the Torah as follows.

You have heard that it was said to the ancients “Do not commit murder!” And, whoever commits murder shall be condemned to the Judgment. But I say to you that anyone who provokes to anger his brother without cause, is condemned to judgment and anyone who should say to his brother, I spit on you is condemned to the assembly, and anyone who should say, you are a coward, is condemned to the Gehenna of fire. Then if you offer your gift on the altar, and remember there that your brother has a grudge against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then coming, offer your gift. Be in agreement with your adversary at law while you are with him on the way, lest your adversary at law deliver you to the judge and the judge deliver you to the officer and you be thrown into the prison. Truly, I say to you, In no way shall you come out from there until you pay the last coin.
Matthew 5:21-26

The Torah says, ‘Do not kill.’ So they really followed that, they didn’t kill each other to death, but they chose a way to evade it. In Thai, we say, ‘I may not kill you to death, but I will make you suffer alive.’ So why didn’t the Torah forbid that? Where did I go wrong? Something like that, you see? This is just maintaining the Torah in a physical manner, adhering to it literally, maintaining the Torah out of fear, and this is not ‘faith’ and can never be justified.

It’s true that Jews do not kill each other, but they allow themselves to be filled with hatred towards one another. They condemn and belittle each other, expressing anger towards each other. What will their state of mind be like? You see, the Torah doesn’t help at all, but that’s not because the Torah is bad, but because of the sin within them and us that prevents us from reaching the beauty of the Torah. Therefore, we need the Savior, which is Yahshua. And how does Yahshua help us? By laying down His life to pay the price for our sins, enabling Him to give us the Holy Spirit to guide us. He guides us on how to rightly observe the Torah, so that in the end, our souls will be pure and we will truly be righteous through faith, because we will ultimately be able to keep the Torah with faith.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those in Yahshua Messiah, who do not walk according to flesh, but according to Spirit. For the Law of the Spirit of life which is in Yahshua Messiah set me free from the law of sin and of death. For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous demand of the Torah might be fulfilled in us, those not walking according to flesh, but according to Spirit. For the ones that are according to flesh mind the things of the flesh. And the ones according to Spirit mind the things of the Spirit. To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace; because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim; for it is not subject to the Torah of Elohim, for it is not possible to be so. And those being in the flesh arenot able to please Elohim.
Romans 8:1-8

Do you see? Paul said that Yahshua came to do all this so that we can finally keep the Torah correctly.

so that the righteous demand of the Torah might be fulfilled in us, those not walking according to flesh, but according to Spirit.
Romans 8:4
